Executive Director Report

Good morning, MCPA members.

Last week, our Board of Directors approved the 2025 Legislative Agenda. We have added several new initiatives to our existing legislative agenda. The high-priority initiatives for the upcoming session will be extending the POST training fund reimbursement to agencies, Recruitment/Retention, and stiffer penalties for Auto Theft and Fleeing.

I want to thank everyone who submitted proposals and the Legislative Committee, comprising about 40 members, for their work on this year's agenda.

You can view MCPA's legislative agenda online at mnchiefs.org/2025-legislative-agenda.

Thank you,

Jeff Potts

Community Partnership Grants

Apply now open for the 2024 Community Partnerships Grant Program, with $75,000 in total funding available to support initiatives aimed at fostering stronger relationships between police departments and their communities.

This grant is a great resource for agencies looking to enhance community engagement through impactful projects, events, or programs. Whether your department is planning to launch new outreach initiatives or expand ongoing efforts, this funding can significantly help in promoting trust, transparency, and engagement within your community.

Even if your agency received a Community Partnerships Grant in 2023, you are still eligible to apply for the 2024 funding. This is an opportunity to build upon past successes or develop new ideas for community engagement.

All grant submissions must focus on key areas such as building relationships, trust, and partnerships with the communities you serve. The deadline to apply is November 4, 2024, and applications can be submitted online. Visit mnchiefs.org/community-grants to learn more and apply. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Acacia Huss-Zirzow or Jeff Potts.
